Kairos retreats and the spiritual encounter that happens there is not just for the seniors soon to graduate and brave the world, but also deeply significant for us eternal students forever hopeful for Kairos moments in our lives.

KAIROS RETREAT LETTERS FROM FRIENDS SERIES

I realized while drafting it that my blog series this year is of a grand purpose, divinely guided and inspired –for each post and the A-ha’s I have gathered found its way to the pages of her letter. And so, I share with you what I expressed to Bella-for the timeless, universal message was not lost on me, an eternal student, now close to 3 decades older than she is today still questioning, seeking and wrestling with my own next steps.

What is vision if not a product of our self-reflection, the result of spiritual guidance acknowledged, accepted, and acted upon with gratitude. I am sharing with you the letter that I wrote to Bella because I realized it is the perfect bridge between last month’s blog theme on “action”-and this month’s theme that I have chosen to be on “vision.” In life we are all called to act…yet the best action taken is one that is infused with great vision, a vision co-created as it is built on a strong foundation of faith. Don’t we all wish for opportune times to act? To know what “right” really looks and feels like so we can go for it! To understand where we are being called so that we can take a leap of faith. Perfect opportunity for us parents to say a bit of what we always wanted to say a chance for us to get their undivided attention. In being up for the task we also have an opportunity to pause, self-reflect and consider our own relationship with life.

Bella said she only knew what time it was when it was time to EAT! For this I am forever grateful. Quite a feat to keep teenagers away from social media. Kairos, meaning a propitious moment for decision or action, offers promise that the answers will be found within, that we co-create experiences meant to expand us. It is at this spiritual retreat -away from technology, phones and various other demands and distractions- those students pause to take some personal inventory and reflect on their relationships with life, God, themselves and others.
